patiala house movie review

How stupid!Bauji (Kapoor) is a self-made Sikh tycoon from Southall, London.Needless to say, it takes a chirpy love bird to show Gattu the way to glory and gratification …In comes Simran (Anuskha Sharma in a role that’s fast becoming stereotype) who cajoles (read Kajols) him to take on the second chance that a beleaguered English cricket team has provided him.Or even try cross-country options like IPL…But that’s not to be.The best part of the film is the opportunity to see cricketers Nasser Hussain, David Gower and Graham Gooch taking guard on the Bollywood pitch. Most of the support players do a decent job.And this secret weapon was made known to Gattu by none other than Bauji, that grumpy old man who loves cricket, knows much about the game’s intricacies but wants his genius son to keep away….But Advani’s Indians come from god knows where!Strangely, the Indian team is nowhere to be seen throughout the T-20 tournament - maybe Advani wished to avoid an “Indian Vs India” clash on screen. As for Akshay, he does look a cricketer. We know Akshay’s character is inspired by cricketer Monty Panesar. So he condemns the British Goras 24/7 while building a fortune on their land 24/ Worse, he doesn’t allow his cricket prodigy son Pargat (Akshay Kumar) to bloom into a fast bowler…Reason - he can’t bear to see his son play for England.Predicatbly, Gattu leads the Englishmen to victory adopting the unusual bowling action of the legendary Lala Amarnath (That’s the only authentic part of Advani’s research). So Pargat grows up into Gattu, a subdued, recluse kind of a guy who manages a mundane departmental store - all to make his father happy.

Their dreams would start rolling the moment he takes guard.Till of course, Bauji finds out and the usual “Bollywood” melodrama takes over only to make way for a happy end.Advani, give us a break - these are self-assured individuals from the current crop with well- defined goals in life and yet, they dance to the tunes of a certain Bauji just because he’s been their support system for long… And worse, the onus of mutiny is only on Gattu.Sanjay Manjrekar brings the same monotony to his role that he usually brings to his TV commentary. Now such families won’t exist even in a remote Indian village (read Peepli), forget Southall. His meek submission also seals the fate of a dozen other young things in the family who suppress their ambition for the family cause. This is another of those “Zero to Hero” roles that Akshay has been doing for long but the backdrop of cricket and absence of slapstick add some novelty to his character. Not many of our film stars would albeit his bowling action and on-field antics suffer a touch of needless histrionics. We also know that English cricket has been deprived of trump card talent for years… But the English board was never so desperate so as to suffer the wrath of a certain Bauji whose nod to his son’s selection alone would decide either redemption or ruin for the team.Keiron Pollard, Andrew Symonds and Gibbs provide some amusing moments. He’s lost his relative to racial discrimination. The entire family reunites to shield Gattu from Bauji’s prowl - Gattu has a new name ‘Kaali”, TV cable is cut-off, newspapers are whisked off …all to keep ‘Bauji” at bay while the matches are on.In line with the script’s demand, they should have roped in ‘son of the soil’ Navjyot Sidhu instead.Advani.It’s good to see rap-star Hard Kaur play a delightful cameo. His Sidhuisms would not have been out of place here. One wonders what stops dear Bauji from packing his bags and rushing off to India especially when Pargat shows his flair at such a tender age.Sharma is convincing, Rishi is rock-solid as ever, though his legendary co-star Dimple is thoroughly wasted.

Thoonga Nagaram’ Movie Review

A team of youngsters have come together to ensure the movie is bubbly and breezy all through.Barani does his part well, while Nishanth and Gaurav excel in their respective roles. He captures Madurai in a different colour while Suresh’s editing is crisp.Directed by debutant Gaurav and produced by Dhayanidhi Alagiri for Cloud Nine Movies, the film unfolds in the temple town and it’s woven around friendship, love, emotions and revenge. He reminds one of Umapathy of ‘Agni Natchathiram’.However, one event changes the course of their life.Three cheers to Dhayanidhi Alagiri and his team.

Did the baddie succeed in his mission is the crux of the story. They are callous youth, who go hammer and tongs to make both ends meet.Vijay Ulaganathan's camera work deserves special mention .Vimal continues from where he left in ‘Kalavani’.He is impressive playing a fun-loving youth in first half.

On the whole, ‘Thoonga Nagaram’ is racy, riveting and entertaining too, but for some déjà vu feel.He would have been easily tempted to go the gory way like in any other film set in the town. The surprise element in the pack is Chidambaram. The youth’s father (Kamala theatre owner Chidambaram) finds out the men behind the attack on his son.A group of four friends (Vimal, Barani, Nishanth and Gaurav) live lives in their own way in Madurai. She is cool, simple and suave in her porrayal.Joining the list is ‘Thoonga Nagaram’, one of the most commonly referred name for Madurai meaning the city never sleeps. The director has ensured that these characters reflect reality and etched them out well.If the first half is breezy and entertaining and speaks about friendship, it slowly takes turn towards the latter part which is filled with suspense and thrilling moments.Anjali seems to be maturing as an actress in every movie of hers.Vimal, a wedding videographer comes across his childhood friend Anjali, who is a compere in a local cable TV channel and love blossoms.Sundar C Babu’s music is foot-tapping and a song on Madurai which has Vadivelu making a cameo is peppy and racy.Kalavani’ fame Vimal, ‘Nadodigal’ Bharani, Gaurav, ‘Renigunta’ fame Nishanth and Anjali play pivotal roles in the movie. In the second half, he gets serious and has taken the role in his stride to play it well with consummate ease. The Madurai Tamil and new faces that resemble people from the heartland of Madurai add credibility to the script. He hatches a conspiracy and ensures that the friends themselves turn foes for each other. But he has carefully avoided violence in this otherwise action-packed flick.Madurai is the toast of Tamil cinema and almost a majority of movies set around the town has managed to leave an impact at the box office, besides winning critical acclaims.Vimal bashes a youth for taking obscene video clippings of a girl and blackmailing her with ulterior motive.Three cheers to Gaurav for making a taut screenplay that is engrossing from scene one.Their life, struggle, survival and emotions makes up the movie. He is soft but oozes menace in his eyes.In the meantime, it’s time for Vimal to tie the knot with Anjali.

Gaganam 2011 Review

Gaganam is an interesting watch all through.Director Radha Mohan work is splendid in the second hour and it holds the key for Gaganam’s performance at the box office.Interval twist and the last hour is simply superb. This movie is getting excellent reviews from every corner as it is a sincere attempt to serve the audience with a non-regular cinema. It is simultaneously made in Tamil as Payanam and released in Tamil and Telugu last Friday, are getting good responses for both the versions of the film.

He once again proves that he is a true trendsetter.Nagarjuna gave a subtle but striking performance.

Gaganam is not a regular masala movie and this movie has gone well with the critics and the audience.

Angel review

Amjad Nadeem's music is passable. There are flimsy scenes like Abhay taking on several policemen single handedly. Now, we wonder how the two sentences mean differently. After serving the jail sentence, he meets Sonal (Maddalsa Sharma), who's the deceased man's physically challenged daughter and asks for forgiveness.Everything's just perfect until an incident throws their life in complete disarray. This is a story about love'.Aseem Bajaj's cinematography is decent. So love brews between the couple amidst the physiotherapy sessions. The poster of ANGEL says, 'This is not a love story.Anyway, ANGEL is Choreographer-turned-director Ganesh Acharya's third directorial venture after SWAMI and MONEY HAI TO HONEY HAI.Although Sonal is outraged initially, she mellows down and starts liking Abhay over a period of time. The film begins with a guy being beaten by the police. The graph of the narrative is low as the film begins and is the same till the intermission point. After the interval, the twist shown elevates the narrative to a great extent.Don't the police officers have guns? The hurried climax doesn't help.

We come to know that he's Abhay (Nilesh Sahay), who has just served a two year jail sentence. He too reciprocates her feelings and is on a mission to make her perfectly all right. The 'story about love' marks the debut of Sanjay Dutt's nephew Nilesh Sahay along with Maddalsa Sharma.Nilesh Naik's editing is good. And it does!Just as you feel Ganesh has finally steadied the sinking ship, it plummets and again goes haywire. Then there's Sonal doing a Mere Khwabon mein jo aaye tackily.Just like Sonal's condition, you desperately want the film to get better. The main flaw of the love story is that you simply don't connect with the characters individually, or even when they are together. The numerous songs, most of them shot in foreign locations don't add any value.Through the flashback mode, we're shown the nasty bike accident in which Abhay inadvertently caused the death of a man.

Thambikottai review

Secondly, his action sequences do not help him.Sadly, the answer is no.The village has a connection to Alagiri, his sister and their dead father, Shanmugam (Prabhu).Ammu Ramesh; Producer: R.The story shifts to the Thambikottai village when Alagiri goes on an NSS camp with his professor (MS Basker) and friends (Santhanam and gang). There is hardly any brilliant scene to point out.Though her character is larger than life, she has played it to the best of her ability. It's time an actor of his calibre should start looking at better scripts to pep up his career. The script smells of old. While the latter is a lecturer, the former studies in the same college.

Thiruvizha' is a foot tapping number.Suresh; Music Composer: D.There, he meets Kanaga (Poonam Bajwa), daughter of a hoodlum-type-rich-man Amirthalingam (Rajendran) who tries to kill government officers who want to repair a damaged bridge that connects the village with the rest of the world.

However, he as a college student is too much to accept! This is the story of Chennai-based brother and sister - Alagiri (Narain) and Shanmughapriya (Meena). The script is lackluster without any interesting twists. The music is nothing to write home about, though the songs are peppy and suit the different situations. Her villainy could have been better utilized in the script. When she is teased by students, he beats them all up.Meena, Prabhu and Rajendran do their best.Poonam is charming and convincing as the village belle and Aarthi and Santhanam do add some light moments. He doesn't look the part. The villagers suffer because of this.Film: 'Thambikottai'; Cast: Narain, Poonam Bajwa, Prabhu, Meena, Sangeetha, Santhanam, Naan Kadavul Rajendran and others; Director: R.Imman 'Thambikottai' was an important film for Narain, whose last release was 'Anjathey' that came about three years ago.It marks his attempt at returning to the action genre, a change from the cop roles he has been doing so far.Narain does his best to portray himself as an action hero. The reason behind villain's resoluteness to keep the bridge unused is quite illogical. The question is, whether the film delivers and makes a difference to the hero who was waiting anxiously, rejecting so many scripts, to try something different? The one performance which stands out is that of Sangeetha, who lives the role of the lady don.

vastadu naa raju review

Vastadu Naa Raju has the glamorous Tapsee, some good comic dialogues, and rich visuals.Brahmanandam provides some good laughter. He still needs to improve his dancing skills. The movie is neither a full entertainer nor does it completely disappoint you.Prakash Raj is okay.He accidentally meets Pooja (Tapasee), sister of a rowdy aspiring to become a politician Narasimha (Prakash Raj).Debutant director Hemanth Madhukar has picked up the right plot line but he doesn`t sustain the interest till the end.He has also changed his modulation that sounds good.Tapsee looks very glamorous in the movie, and her performance is also equally competent compared to her first film, Jhummandi Naadam.Venky (Vishnu) is a boxer and leads a happy life.He loses track towards the climax. He looks different from his earlier films and has given a sincere performance.S Gopal Reddy has shot the film on Red Camera and the visuals are strikingly rich.Pooja and Venky are seen together at various occasions which gives Narasimha the wrong idea that they are in love. Both the hero and heroine actually doesn`t meet each other till the interval but everybody is made to feel that they are lovers.

The director has cleverly narrated this point till the interval.Vastadu Naa Raju provides some hilarious moments thanks to Brahmanandam and some punch dialogues. But he suddenly drops off the anchor later. After Saleem, Manchu Vishnu who turned producer with this film took this career saving movie. The film could have been a good entertainer.Under this assumption Narasinha attacks Venky`s family forcing Venky to retaliates. He entrusted the job of directing to a newcomer Hemanth Madhukar, who tried to play the game safe by focusing more on comedy.Ali, Shiva Reddy, Satyam Rajesh make their presence felt.
